Santa’s sleigh is on the docks, waiting to be packed full! Make it easy on yourself and shop the one store that has the one-size-fits-all gift: DDR Books. We have something for every age and taste, and if you need a hint, we’ve got a world-famous book collector to guide you.

Shoppers this week will be the first to take advantage of our holiday Gift Certificate Sale: spend $25 and receive a $30 certificate; spend $50 and get $60; $75 and get $90. It’s like free $.

Even better, every $20 spent at DDR Books (before taxes) between now and Dec. 24 earns a chance toward a $100 Gift Certificate—we will draw for at least two. Make sure to have as many slips as possible! We won’t tell if you spend it on yourself.

A special service we’re offering this year is the ability to special order any books we do not have in stock for either pickup or shipping inside the U.S. (for the price of postage). Just give us a call at 605.868.3705, email ddrbooks@wat.midco.net, or stop by 7 S. Maple St. In Uptown Watertown.

A change from last week’s email and post: our holiday hours will now begin a week earlier, on Mon., Nov. 22!

Through Dec. 23, our extended holiday hours are M-F 9:30 am to 7 pm and Sat 9:30 am to 4 pm. We are open Christmas Eve (Dec. 24) until 3 pm and closed Christmas Day. The exception to our closing hours will be Black Friday, Nov. 26, when we close at 6:30 pm for the Uptown Lighted Parade.

Speaking of The Great American Shopping HolidayBlack Friday and Small Business Saturday is the perfect time to check off the gift list, especially because DDR Books will be offering cider and cookies to keep your energy up. You’ll need it, because we have stuffed the shelves (and stockings!) with dozens of new titles—the newest “Wimpy Kid,” Katie Couric’s memoir, the “Dune” graphic novel, Hoda Kotb’s second collection of daily reflections, a beautifully illustrated “A Charlie Brown Christmas,” Lee Child’s latest, and soon-to-be award winners/blockbusters by Kristin Hannah, Louise Erdrich, Nicholas Sparks, Mitch Albom, Michael Connelly, and more. And, of course, our non-fiction collections are second-to-none, with the finest special selection of American, Native American, Western, South Dakotan and regional history around.

Additionally, our owner was recently entrusted with an outstanding collection of books on world and American history and government; military history, aircraft, vessels, and weaponry; biographies; and dozens of other topics. We will be displaying volumes for sale throughout the season—it has to be seen to be believed.

Come check out our decorations, get the freshest (and best) gift recommendations around from two legendary English teachers, or grab a cuppa at Gather and settle in with a book at Eastern South Dakota’s largest independent bookstore!
